Penang Hill is also known by the Malay name Bukit Bendera, which actually refers to Flagstaff Hill, the most developed peak. Colonial bungalows can be found around this hill due to the British preferring to stay in a cooler climate compared to the hot and humid environment in the city.

A view of George Town from the top of Penang Hill.

Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang Island, Penang
Then, you will visit Kek Lok Si Temple. Built in 1891 as a small shrine, it has since expanded to become one of the most majestic and largest temples in South East Asia. Since its founding in 1930, the “Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas” is considered one of Penang’s most beautiful architectural wonders as it is able to incorporate 3 cultures into one structure.

Finally, explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town of George Town and admire the historic monuments, memorable landmarks, and colorful street art murals. Take a short stroll through Armenian Street where its famed street art/murals are found. Discover the unique painted walls mimicking life in the city. Blending humour and historical elements, Ernest Zacharevic, a Lithuanian born artist, hand painted the art to reflect what local culture has to offer during his short stay in Penang in 2010. Some examples are “Kids on a Bicycle”, “Boy On Chair”, and many more.
